Virtual appointments

Speechie is not yet taking clients. This page describes what the service will look like. Appointments begin only once the clinician's registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is confirmed. Until then, use the free public options linked on this page.

Virtual sessions mean a family in Thunder Bay, Windsor or Ottawa gets the same access as a family in Toronto, with no travel and no waiting room. Speechie plans to launch virtually across Ontario first.

How a session will run

  1. You receive a secure video link and any printable materials a day ahead.
  2. Sessions are 30 to 45 minutes depending on age, with a parent present throughout.
  3. Activities use screen-shared games, the free tools on this site, and real objects from your home.
  4. The last few minutes are for you: what to practise, how often, and what to watch for.
  5. A short written note follows each session so the plan is always in writing.

Privacy

Video sessions will use a platform suitable for personal health information under Ontario's PHIPA, and records will be kept to CASLPO's standards. Details will be published before services open.

Frequently asked questions

Does virtual speech therapy work for young children?
Research summarized in Ontario's own Preschool Speech and Language guidelines finds virtual intervention comparable to in-person for speech outcomes in children as young as four, and for language outcomes in several groups of preschoolers. A parent beside the child is the key ingredient.
What do we need at home?
A laptop or tablet with a camera, a reasonably quiet space, a table, and a parent who can sit with the child.
Which children are not a good fit for virtual sessions?
Very young toddlers who cannot attend to a screen are usually better served by parent-coaching sessions, which work well online. Some assessments, feeding and swallowing concerns, and hearing questions need in-person care.
